Another Tuesday, Another Baking Adventure

I am very tired. So let's make this quick.

I made the granola grabbers, selected as this week's Tuesdays With Dorie task by Michelle of Bad Girl Baking. I've never tried a cookie recipe that had this much STUFF in it. The Golden Spouse called them "Power Cookies."

They were pretty good right out of the oven -- if you like the texture of oatmeal cookies. I do -- but I know lots of heathens discerning people who don't. Mine were a little dry, which is contrary to some of the other posts I've already read by people whose cookies were moist. They were even drier the next day -- and crumbly, too.

And in spite of my VERY careful measuring, I only got 38 cookies out of the batch (instead of 40). I have no idea what I did wrong. The batch of dough came in at a convenient 40 ounces; I measured out 1 ounce cookies; I got 38 cookies. No idea where the extra dough went. (Oh wait... surely I didn't nibble away two cookies' worth of dough....)

I doubt that I'll make these again. It was a decent cookie, but not a mind-blowing, knock-your-socks-off, grab-the-headboard kind of cookie. If I'm going to bake, I want the earth to move - else what's a heaven for?

Next week: Chocolate Banded Ice Cream Torte. I'll let you in on a little secret: I made this one this past weekend, too. I'm going to be out of town next week and didn't want to miss an assignment.

That means that I had to make it before getting the usual P & Q hints from my fellow bakers -- and I rely heavily on those. (If anyone can tell me how to easily cut and serve this &^%$ dessert, I'll be forever grateful. I tried the hot knife trick -- FAIL.)

lol about cutting the cake - reminded me of trying to scoop the recent ice cream recipe out of the bowl. Hard as a rock. You may need to just let the cake sit for a little bit outside of the freezer before trying to cut.

This was really one loaded cookie! I didn't think it would all hold together and I almost didn't think it would. Btw, mine were dry too.

you are DEDICATED, to make and post two recipes before going out of town! too bad you weren't crazy about the cookies, but at least you didn't hate them. my dough was dry and crumbly, but the cookies were not dry, somehow.

I always have cookie dough just mysteriously disappear too. Hmph - gnomes! And for next week's, I used the hot knife, but I also cranked my freezer temp down really low so that the torte was rock hard. Otherwise, my chocolate slid around a lot.

Caitlin is right - it's the cookie dough gnomes. I blame them for many things around my house. But these look awesome - you had to be doing something right.

Best way to serve next week's cake: just pick the whole thing and eat it in one bite like a cartoon character. Nom nom nom!

Sorry to hear your cookies came out dry. Even my burnt ones came out moist somehow!

As for nutritional analysis:

It's my savior :)

Sorry these cookies didn't do it for you - and that they were dry. Good job on them, regardless - they look pretty inviting in that picture!

Interestingly enough, I wasn't able to make 40 cookies either.

I wonder how that could have happened.

giggle.

The dough was pretty tasty, I know I ate WAY too much of it. Mine were pretty moist, though. Looking forward to that torte.

Grab-the-headboard - good?
Damn, I remember those days. I was a lot younger then. if you do, however, know a recipe for a cookie like that, ummm, I want it.

The NYT chocolate chip cookie recipe is pretty close to grab-the-headboard-good. I made them right before these. It just wasn't fair. ;)

Oh, Rebecca... I've heard about those cookies... I thought they were an Urban Legend.

Two cookies snitched... from what I read it sounds like you did better than most! :)

When you find the recipe for the grab-the-headboard cookies, please share.

If it was the equivalent of only two missing cookies at my house, I would consider that a success.

Try it again with chocolate chips. Mmmmm.
